The Augustinian monastery in Erfurt is a unique monument of medieval religious architecture and most of the buildings date from the 13 and 14th centuries. In 1505 Martin Luther joined the order and lived here as a monk. The monastery is well located near the centre of Erfurt and tourists, groups or anyone who wishes to overnight in a monastery are welcome to stay here. The newly renovated single and double guestrooms are all ensuite and one room has wheelchair access. All meals are available.
Set in a spectacular mountainous landscape the Benedictine Monastery of Ettal is located across the road from the monk’s popular hotel. The hotel is run professionally and a high standard of accommodation is provided with well equipped rooms and apartments. Each winter when the village is under snow, the countryside becomes a cross-country ski-ing paradise. The ‘fairytale’ Neuschwanstein Castle and the village of Oberammergau, home of the famous Passion Play are close by. For the record, the next play will take place in 2010.

A hard working community of Dominican nuns run a popular health centre at their monastery situated a ½ hour bus ride from the centre of Koblenz (between Cologne and Frankfurt) in Germany. The sisters have been trained professionally in the Kneipp tradition of treating the body, mind and spirit, an holistic technique introduced by German priest and naturopath, Father Sebastian Kneipp. This is a busy complex and the nuns have room in their modern, classy, hotel style guesthouse for 100 guests. Wholesome meals are professionally prepared and there is much to keep the guests occupied – spa, sauna, gym, solarium, massage, exercise programs and opportunities for walking, attending concerts and visiting the surrounding area. Facilities are available for the disabled.
