Fiuggi is a small, picturesque, medieval hilltop town situated in an area known for its thermal waters, spas and health resorts. The curative properties of the region's waters were much appreciated by Pope Boniface VIII (1294-1303), who claimed the healing liquid dissolved his kidney stones. The thermal springs of Boniface VIII (L'Acqua di Boniface VIII) can be found in Fiuggi's lovely 'old town' and can be accessed on foot from the convent (1 km). Monasteries, castles and ancient buildings lie scattered in the surrounding area which is replete with parks, fountains, chestnut woods and walking trails.
