A beautiful place to stay! My only complaint - I intended to book (and thought I had) for a one-person stay. The price for two (and lovely breakfast for two) was more than I'd wanted to pay. Reception would not consider a discount in consideration of my one breakfast. Sometimes I think the website defaults to two person bookings even we start out as one.
The Dominican Sisters have been overseeing this convent hotel for many years and along with lay staff, are well versed in the art of hospitality. The hotel is situated on a rise, in medieval, walled Siena, one of the best preserved towns in Italy. Some of the guest rooms have splendid views (especially at night) over rooftops and clusters of houses, medieval towers and the Duomo.
Siena's ornate Gothic cathedral is said by locals to rival the Duomo in Florence. Motor vehicles are banned from many streets making the town easy to negotiate on foot, despite the hills. The Sanctuary of St Catherine lies adjacent to Alma Domus and a little further up the hill stands the Basilica Cateriniana San Domenico, where a side chapel has been dedicated to the saint.
Alma Domus is clean, safe and reasonably priced and hard to beat for location, location, location.
