We enjoyed spending several nights at the monastery in Sestri Levante. The facilities were quiet, very clean and offered exceptionally comfortable accommodations. The staff were kind and helpful, but spoke very little English. One rainy afternoon, we decided to eat in and had a wonderful home made lunch of pasta, stewed chicken and potatoes, salad and fruit for dessert. It was a surprisingly delightful stay. Sestri Levante is a great location to visit Portofino and the Cinque Terre. The monastery is perfect for local traveling as it is located only a few minutes from the train station.
I enjoyed my stay. It was in a great location for the train and the seafront, even though there were some language difficulties, I was helped by a lovely man who spoke excellent English, so these were overcome. I was made to feel welcome.
My family come here every year. We like the open spaces and the close proximity to the water. Not expensive and a good place to relax with family.Friendly service
Sestri levante is a gorgeous little fishing village/town with ancient maritime origins - possibly because the town is situated on a peninsula with water on both sides. The advantage is that the the town has two beautiful beaches. Sestri Levante is a favourite with Italian holiday makers, and those in the know. Children's author Hans Christian Anderson lived here for some time. Pretty pastel coloured buildings line the beachfront and tiny inlets and bays adorn the picture perfect coastline.
The Madonnina del Grappa was founded by Father Enrico Mauri (1883-1967) to offer a safe and secure accommodation to ecclesial groups or other institutions, married couples, travellers and individuals. Groups are also welcome to stay overnight and to arrange meetings seminars, training and vocational activities.
The house is managed by a Secular Institue, the Oblates of Christ the King. The institute is a female order with the mother house in Sestri Levante.
The Madonnina del Grappa guest house is situated in a gracious and spacious, old villa, with high, frescoed ceilings, and is nestled in large, well maintained, park-like gardens. The house is located a few metres from the train station, and 1 km from the beach and the boardwalk. Children have plenty of space to run around.
