The local airport is 15 km from the monastery. The monastery and hotel are a short taxi ride from the centre of Kaunas (10 km). To reach the monastery and hotel by public transport, take trolleybus Nº5 from the city to the final stop on the line. Continue walking away from the city until you come to the sign to the monastery. The bus stop is located 500 m from the monastery and it is a gentle uphlll walk from here.
The opening event of the annual International Pažaislis Music Festival is held on the monastery estate along with the closing ceremony. The festival runs for 3 months during the summer. Festivals and religious celebrations at the monastery, are common place. I had the pleasure of staying here with a small group, and this rather unique property certainly lived up to our expectations. Rooms are nicely furnished, clean and big enough. The decor of the common areas is superb. Breakfast was quite a surprise - none of us expected a 'feast'. However, it set us up for some outdoor activities. We enjoyed spectacular walks around the grounds of this amazing property and visited the monastery next door. No swimming unfortunately, as the weather was a little inclement. Loved the views and the wonderful location. It was sad to leave.
This gorgeous hotel has a unique atmosphere, probably because the walls are drenched in centuries of political and religious history. The location is truly amazing, close to a lake and with plenty of walking trails to explore the surrounding area. The tranquilly and the silence is deafening. We ate delicious food prepared from old recipes handed down by the nuns and wandered over to the monastery to sit in the church and marvel at the art works inside. A trolley bus stopped nearby which has handy when we wanted to see more of the area.Highly recommended.
This unique, 4-star hotel is situated on an artificial lake and overlooks a vast, green regional park. History and cultural heritage are reflected in the decor of each guest room and the popular hotel restaurant specialises in authentic local cuisine and serves wine sourced from other European monasteries. Observe monastic life, retreat into nature or just relax in the modern comforts of a most unusual 4-star hotel.
The Pažaislis Monastery and the Church of the Visitation were established for the Order of Camaldolese Hermits in 1662. The founder, Grand Duke and Great Chancellor of Lithuania, Krzysztof Zygmunt Pac, kept a family apartment in the monastery and this now forms part of the Hotel Monte Pacis.
The Sisters of St Casimir took over the grand estate in the early 20th century, and have been offering hospitality to travellers and pilgrims since that time. The Hotel Monte Pacis (Hill of Peace) was established within the walls of the monastery, to further that intention. Though still linked with the sisters and the monastery the hotel is managed by lay staff.
