Don't drive by - stop, stay overnight and spoil yourself with an authentic experience in an old-world house of religious hospitality. Wonderful staff, impeccable food, views and tons of charm. Hope to repeated the experience one day.
We were welcomed like old friends and treated like pure gold. The food was stunning and the staff could not be more helpful. It was quite an experience - one we will always remember for the best reasons.
The Hermitage of Santa Maria degli Angeli stands on a small hill and overlooks the tiny village of Alvignanello, one kilometre away. Dating back to the 16th century, this lovely building was abandoned for many years. However, in recent times the ancient complex has been lovingly restored in a project undertaken by members of the local Catholic parish.
The hermitage now caters for overnight guests offering hospitable accommodation to tourists, travellers and pilgrims. A restored chapel is situated within the building.
Once a residence of the local bishop, the building is is immersed in nature and is surrounded by trees and olive groves and large, regional parks. Warm hospitality, good food and wine and peaceful surroundings ensure guests enjoy a relaxing break.
