The small Tuscan city of Pontremoli is a recommended stopover on the Via Francigena, a pilgrimage route from Canterbury in Kent, England to St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The pilgrimage trail leads out of Rome and can be followed all the way to the Holy Land. Many pilgrims walking the route stay overnight at the seminary.
The seminary guesthouse is managed by the local Catholic Diocese. Accommodation is simple but adequate and all guestrooms share a bathroom. No meals are served, but the complex is located in the centre of Pontremoli with easy access to restaurants and cafes.
Pontremoli is a town of churches and bridges and the twisting narrow lanes of the old section of the city are well worth exploring. And if its October the Mushroom and Chestnut Festival could be in full swing.
