Always wanted to go to Lucca - We were not disappointed and found the perfect place to stay
Surrounded by medieval walls, lovely, laid-back Lucca makes a welcome change from the hectic streets, crowds and queues found in many other Tuscan towns. The old town is reached through medieval city gates and strolling the cobbled streets is the ideal way to explore. Watch out for locals on bicycles and discover ancient churches, gorgeous piazzas, bell-towers, medieval houses, alfresco cafes and smart boutiques. The annual Puccini Opera Festival, held in Lucca in July/August could be a wonderful excuse to visit.
The local Diocese has managed Casa Diocesana di Lucca since the 1800s when it was used for various local and diocesan activities. However, in the 70s the complex was converted into a house of hospitality catering for tourists and pilgrims. In the 2000s the property was renovated in traditional Tuscan style. While the large number of guestrooms in the house are ideal for groups to overnight, bed and breakfast is also offered to travellers and pilgrims for business, leisure or spiritual activities.
