More Information
Dear Traveler,

If you come to Cuba we would be very grateful for any donations of clothes, shoes, medicine and any suitable items we can use to support the people we work with in our Mission. We work with people who have nothing and these items are always most welcome. God will repay your generosity.

Grazie!
Madre Superiora

The Order of the Blessed Savior was founded by Saint Brigida de Svezia in 1370 and re-founded by Saint Mary Isabel Hessalblad on the 8th September 1911. The Order's ecumenical, spiritual and missionary works go hand in hand with the daily Adoration of The Blessed Sacrament and also with the ministry of hospitality. In Cuba, much of the sister's work revolves around the elderly, young people, the sick and the poor and the ministry of hospitality. The nuns have opened their home to receive and welcome travelers and pilgrims for holidays, work or for overnight stays. Guests are welcome to take part in spiritual activities is they so choose.

The convent guest house is close to the beach and to museums, theatres, the planetarium, the Cámara Obscura (invented by Leonardo da Vinci), a rum factory, The Capitol, the House of Chocolate, the El Camino de Malecon (Ocean Road), the Cannon (the Cannon ceremony takes place every evening at Castillo de San Carlos de la Cabana), the Cathedral of San Cristobal, and the (in)famous Bar Bodeguita in Revolution Square. The former home of writer Ernest Hemingway can be reached by taxi (20 mins).

Wonderful stay at the convent: sisters were welcoming, breakfast was good, convent very quiet but in the middle of Old Havana. A perfect stay!

The convent is perfectly situated in Old Havana and walking distance of all places of interest in Old, New and Central Havana. The convent itself is a beautiful building with large clean rooms, inside gardens and calming atmosphere. The sisters are very helpful and friendly and go out of their way to help you. Without reservation we would recommend a stay at the convent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were very well looked after by the welcoming and lively community who do miracles despite the privations caused by the US blockade of Cuba (our observation, they don’t complain). Not only do the Sisters look after their guests but they also teach local children, distribute food aid (when they can get it) as well as keeping their own community abundantly alive. The rooms were comfortable, the breakfasts ample. We thoroughly recommend it!

Convento de Santa Brigida
Habana Vieja, Cuba

This lovely convent guest house has everything going for it!
Brilliantly located, in the centre of the bustling Old Havana, within walking distance of the beach and the majority of Havana's tourist attractions, newly updated guest rooms, and managed by the most efficient and welcoming community of nuns that any jaded traveler could ever hope to meet, the guesthouse is a peaceful, happy, safe, reasonably priced and friendly home away from home.

The building was established in the early eighteenth century, as the palatial home of Spanish Count, Don Lorenzo Ruiz de Alarcon y Montalvo Montalvo (1704-1778). In recent times the structure has undergone an extensive restoration. The inauguration of the new building was attended by President Fidel Castro. The body of Count Don Lorenzo lies in the Havana Cathedral.

The modernised guest rooms and comfortable public areas, have enabled the sisters to welcome overnight visitors, the proceeds of which supports the order's various charitable works in Cuba, and allows for the allocation of goods or funds to where the current need is greatest.

The sister's weekly 'Grandparent's Lunch' for local grannies and grandads is a customary tradition.
